Did you know monensin is toxic for dogs?

Monensin, a food additive for cattle and poultry, is highly appetent for dogs but also life-threatening for them. It causes paralysis starting at the pelvic limbs. It can reach the muscles used for breathing and lead to respiratory arrest. There is no antidote for monensin. The treatment consists of removing the source of the poisoning and keeping the dog hospitalized with IV treatment. The prognosis is reserved.
